🚨 'Firebombing' at Fletcher's Ice Cream

October 22, 2025

Hey Twin Cities! I'm Adam Sage, a creative producer at City Cast Twin Cities. Are you ready for street sweeping to start in Minneapolis next week? Watch out for bright pink "STREET SWEEPING - NO PARKING" signs, and don't try your luck – your car could end up ticketed and towed if you leave it in the way of the sweepers.

What the Cities Are Talking About

'Firebombing' at Fletcher's Ice Cream: What Is Happening?!

A man was arrested for throwing lit Molotov cocktails at Fletcher's Ice Cream in Northeast Minneapolis. He actually did it twice: once on Sunday night, and again on Monday afternoon. Police picked up the suspect about a mile away from the shop, a few hours after the Monday afternoon attack. [Star Tribune]

  • Is everyone ok? Luckily, no one was hurt, and the ice cream shop reopened for business on Tuesday. On Sunday night, the Molotov made it through the window and caught chairs on fire inside. Patrons from the neighboring Mac's Industrial Sports Bar were able to put the fire out and contain the damage. On Monday, the wick fell out of the Molotov, and it did not break through the window. [KSTP]
  • Why did this happen? MPD and multiple law enforcement agencies are still working to determine a motive, but owner Jason Fletcher suspects it may have happened due to the prominently displayed Pride flag on the front of the building. [CBS News]
  • What can we do? Like I mentioned earlier, Fletcher's is already reopened! Go get some ice cream if you can, be really nice to the staff, and know that your dollars are going to help fix up the damage.

🍸 Not-So-Secret Speakeasies: Speakeasies in the Twin Cities are making themselves easier to find. Volstead's Emporium is planning to add signage to its alleyway, and Billy After Dark ditched its signature sketchy-looking website that they said was scaring off customers. Do you think they're losing some of their charm, or are you more likely to go now that you're less likely to get lost? Let me know! [Star Tribune]

🏀 The Wolves are Hungry: The Timberwolves season starts tonight with a game in Portland against the Trail Blazers. Just five years ago, our Wolves were named the worst-performing team in all of professional sports, but are now once again poised for a winning season and a deep playoff run. One big subplot to follow: The New York Times thinks Anthony Edwards has a shot at winning league MVP. [Star Tribune]

📚 Book Bag Lady Lives On: When Jeanette Kamman passed away in 2014, she left no instructions on what to do with her collection of over 300,000 books. St. Paul real estate investors Joe Whebbe and Rhonda Paoli became responsible for the books when they bought Jeanette's three houses, and they have since invested over $140,000 in preserving them. Joe and Rhonda recently opened a bookstore inside Capitol View Cafe on St. Paul's West Side, and you can check out Kamman's collection Wednesday through Saturday. [Pioneer Press]

🏛️ Ellison Wants the Threepeat: Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced his campaign to run for election again. He's joining the trend of Minnesotan incumbents going for a third consecutive term, as Tim Walz and the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul are attempting to do in the upcoming elections.
