✈️ Prepare for an 'unholy mess' at MSP

November 7, 2025 · Special thanks to Anna Weggel and Sean McPherson for editing City Cast Twin Cities this week!

Hey Twin Cities! It’s Adam today. Want to buy an ice cream parlor? Sonny's Cafe in Uptown is up for sale. Their gelato is so good, and they have one of the most beautiful patios in the city – so if you happen to have an extra $1.35 million to drop on it, please don't change anything. What the Cities Are Talking About

Get Ready For an 'Unholy Mess'

The FAA announced it will be cutting 10% of all air travel starting today, cancelling between 3,500 to 4,000 flights per day. Provided the government shutdown doesn't magically end today, MSP is one of the 40 airports with flights on the chopping block. [Bring Me The News]

  • Why cut flights? There is currently a shortage of air traffic controllers, who have been working without pay since the government shutdown started on Oct. 1. With the current levels of staffing, it's not safe to continue flights nationwide at full capacity. [CBS News]
  • What to expect: While some airport employees are posting TikToks flexing MSP's short security lines, travel industry analyst Henry Hartveldt said he expects it to be an "unholy mess." If I were travelling this weekend, I'd definitely be getting to the airport early. [Star Tribune]
  • What to do if you're traveling: The FAA isn't offering much other than "stay connected with your airline for the latest information." However, Thrifty Traveler executive director Kyle Potter recommends putting together a backup plan of travelling by car or train if possible, and knowing your rights. If an airline cancels a domestic flight of three hours or more, you're entitled to a refund. [Star Tribune / CBS News]

'Weird Sexy Dream Ballet': City Cast staffers saw Purple Rain on opening night and in previews, and … they weren’t huge fans. Contributor Denzel Belin said the show just didn’t feel like Prince to him. Executive Producer Anna Weggel felt some of the misogynistic name-calling was "a setback for all womenkind." There were some standout performances of Prince's hits, though – "Nasty Girl" sounded delightful, and "The Beautiful Ones" brilliantly brought home the end of the first act. Tenants Win Big in Duluth: Duluth voted to pass its "Right to Repair" referendum, which will allow tenants to conduct basic repairs of their units and deduct the cost of the repairs from their rent. That would have been pretty useful to me when my ceiling caved in during college. [MPR News]
