We Watched These Minneapolis Doomsday Docs So You Don’t Have To

While the team is enjoying the holidays, we’re revisiting an episode about documentaries that seek to “uncover” how bad life in Minneapolis is, thanks to its liberal leaders. “The Fall of Minneapolis” and “A Precarious State” depict the city as crime-ridden, lawless and generally an unlivable place, often trafficking in cherry-picked data, selective sourcing, or straight up misinformation. We ask: what is the point of these documentaries, and how do they shape how people view Minneapolis? [🎧 City Cast Twin Cities]

  • Better watch: If the holidays get you in a documentary-watching mood, we recommend the PBS series “Paradox: Echoes of Reform & The Minnesota Police.”
  • Who made this?: Two months after the documentary aired, MSP Mag published an interview with Rick Kupchella, who produced “A Precarious State.” The most interesting part to me is that Kupchella was inspired to make the documentary after the collapse of his content-marketing company.
  • Kupchella also recounts talking to two real estate agents about the state of Minneapolis’s downtown, at a reception “for men over 50 who want to become harder to kill.” [MSP Mag]
