🍀 Where to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day

March 17, 2026

Good morning, Twin Cities! Tiffany here. Welcome to our newest Neighbor, Kirstin D.! I bet Kirstin knows the perfect time to shovel during a blizzard. That’s just the feeling I get. ❄️

Today’s Must-Know

Where to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Will you be braving the snow to party today? If so, we’ve rounded up the best places to celebrate St. Paddy’s. Host Sean McPherson says this list puts the focus on St.Paul, as it’s the “beating heart” of the local Irish community. But there are also Minneapolis things to do if you’re not venturing across the river. [City Cast Twin Cities]

  • First things first: Sean starts his day at the Landmark Center, where you can actually enjoy Irish culture before you jump into drinking. There, you can catch traditional Irish dance performances, a marketplace, and even seminars on Irish culture if you’re feeling intellectual.
  • Catch the parade: Join the 60th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which starts at Mears Park and then joyously jigs over to Rice Park. It’s the quintessential St. Paddy’s event, which, according to the event website, “celebrates Saint Paul's Irish heritage and the many Irish clans that remain in the area.”
  • Live music: Pro-tip: catch the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band at Shamrocks. Will it be absolutely packed? Yes. But is it worth it to see this great band? Also yes.

What the Cities Are Talking About

Inaugural veto: For those keeping track, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey issued the first veto of his third term to strike down an extension on eviction notices. Reporter Trevor Mitchell points out that, unlike last term, Frey’s vetoes may be harder for the progressive bloc to override due to the election of more moderates to the council. [MinnPost]

Fried chicken real estate: Real estate agent Elijah Renn wants to sell someone “with a vision” the “fixtures and lease” of Tender Lovin Chix in Uptown Minneapolis for $199,000. The TLC TikTok account commented to say they’re not closing, just relocating. Originally a food truck, the chicken spot opened its brick-and-mortar shop on Lyndale Avenue in 2024. Security is expensive: There’s a simmering controversy at the St. Paul City Council over rising security costs for community events, Fred Melo reports. A proposal to set aside $155,000 to help groups pay for security has been delayed, while others have objected to another proposal that would allow six groups to write off their overdue security balance.
