✈️ Is ICE doing security at MSP?
March 24, 2026
Good morning, Twin Cities! Tiffany here. Good news! With your help, we donated $1,074.48 to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota from the proceeds of our February membership campaign. Thanks to our awesome Neighbors for supporting us and helping safeguard immigrants’ rights. You can learn more about becoming a Neighbor here.

Today’s Must-Know

Where’s ICE? (Probably) not helping TSA lines
With funding for the Department of Homeland Security still in limbo, President Donald Trump sent ICE agents to shore up Transportation Security Administration staffing on Monday. This led many to wonder: “Is ICE going to be patting me down at MSP?” Seems like no. CNN reported a list of airports ICE was sent to, and Minnesota’s was notably absent. [CNN]
- Business as usual: Local reporting showed no sign of immigration agents at MSP on Monday. MinnPost’s Ana Radelat writes that the U.S. House passed a bill to fund DHS, but Senate Democrats are filibustering the legislation. Sens. Amy Klobuchar, Tina Smith, and other Democratic lawmakers are pushing for ICE reforms, like a new use-of-force policy for immigration agents. [Star Tribune / MinnPost]
- What are they doing? Tom Homan said on Sunday that the objective of sending ICE to airports was to ease long lines caused by the TSA shortage. Kyle Potter of Thrifty Traveler reported lines seemed to be moving smoothly at MSP on Monday. Plus, Potter shares that you can check MSP’s security wait times in advance! [Kyle Potter on X]
- Detention flights: Though ICE isn’t specifically assisting with security at MSP, citizen flight tracker Nick Benson reports immigration detainees are still being flown out of the airport. [Nick Benson on Bluesky]

What the Cities Are Talking About
Mistaken identity: The Department of Justice has dropped charges against a Brooklyn Park woman whom they incorrectly identified as a Cities Church protester. Her lawyer said she was charged because she looked like a woman at the demonstration. She was pulled over by federal agents and interrogated for hours, her lawyer added. [New York Times]
Tax szn: If you’ve either donated or received cash gifts through mutual aid, you might be wondering what that means for your taxes. Cash gifts are not taxable income for the receiver. But people who give more than $19,000 to one individual must report it to the IRS, potentially exposing the recipient’s identity to the DHS. [Minnesota Reformer]
Good rich guy: Last week, Stand with Minnesota creator Ashley Fairbanks told us about entrepreneur John Wilson, who has helped thousands of people pay rent. Deena Winter profiled Wilson, who made his money through a cancer-treating device. Wilson has also pledged to match $2.8 million in rental assistance proposed by the Minneapolis City Council. Get arty: Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl is putting us on a real hidden gem – you can book a private showing of Mia’s works. Just schedule a one-hour appointment at the museum’s Print Study Room. If you don’t know what collection to request, Moskowitz Grumdahl shared some ideas. [MSP Mag]
Good neighbor: Shubhanjana Das writes about how Palestinian-owned Amigos One Stop in Minneapolis has stepped up to help Ecuadorian neighbors sheltering in place. The store reported a drop in revenue of more than 50%, but still hired two new employees to help deliver groceries. [Sahan Journal]
