Today’s Must-Know

What to know ahead of "No Kings" on Saturday
Organizers have named the St. Paul No Kings protest as the national flagship of what could be the single largest day of domestic protest in U.S. history. Whether you're going or not, it's going to affect your day in the Twin Cities. Here's what you need to know ahead of time:
- Schedule: At 12 p.m., there will be marches starting from St. Paul College, Harriet Island Park, and the Western Sculpture Park to the Minnesota Capitol. The rally is set to begin at the Capitol at 2 p.m. with a star-studded cast of speakers and performers, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, Bruce Springsteen, Jane Fonda, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, and more. [MPR]
- What to bring: Snacks, water, and a fully-charged phone. There's not going to be food or water available at the event, and you could end up being there for a long time. Organizers also advise against bringing any chalk, stickers, or writing material to mark up the Capitol, and weapons are expressly forbidden. [No Kings Twin Cities]
- For the love of god, don't drive: Save yourself the headache. Parking will be nearly impossible, and trying to leave at the end will be even worse. The Capitol is right next to a stop on the Green Line, so download the Metro Transit app to get a $2 transit ticket on your phone, and take the bus or train. [🎧 City Cast Twin Cities]
- Not going to be in St. Paul? There will be other demonstrations in just about every city in Minnesota. MPR put together a list of demonstrations throughout the state, and you can also check out the interactive map on the No Kings website to see the nearest rally to you.

What the Cities Are Talking About
Suing the feds (again): Minnesota is suing the Trump administration for access to evidence in the killings of Renee Macklin Good and Alex Pretti and the shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis. The lawsuit alleges federal agencies violated the Administrative Procedure Act by withholding evidence to shield agents from potential charges. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said that regardless of the outcome of the case, her office can still bring charges if it determines a crime occurred. [Star Tribune]
R&B Legends: The Minnesota State Fair announced that TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, and En Vogue will be headlining the grandstand this year. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. and range in price from $59 to $128. [Spokesman-Recorder]
Medicaid funding update: After the federal government withheld $259 million in Medicaid funding from Minnesota over fraud concerns, federal officials have approved the state’s plan to improve oversight. The approval is expected to resolve funding disputes, though officials have yet to confirm when the funds will be released. [Minnesota Reformer]

Legislating in gridlock: On today's episode of the podcast, Minnesota's first trans woman legislator, Rep. Leigh Finke, reflects on her time so far in state government, including the creation of the Queer Caucus and the passing of Minnesota's Trans Refuge Bill. She also laments the current state of the deadlocked legislature, where she says a state of "absolute oppositionality" is degrading the quality of life at the Capitol and resulting in very little getting done. One final hurrah: Minnesota's first punk band, The Suicide Commandos, will be playing their last show ever this Saturday at First Ave. It'll also be the first show they've ever played without bassist Steve Almaas, but the Commandos will have Steve Price of the Suburbs fill in, as well as special guest appearances including Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü and Sugar, Craig Finn of the Hold Steady, and more.
