“Weinering” not sexual harassment?

September 21, 2026 · — Tiffany

Good morning, Twin Cities! Tiffany here. Some fun things this week: the finale for the Funniest Person in St. Paul at Gambit Brewing Company, opening night of the Arab Film Festival at The Main Cinema, and Beaver Day Parade at Graco Park. Plus, you can help build a Rebel Loon sculpture at the Bricks & Minifigs grand opening in Uptown, Minneapolis.

Today’s Must-Know

St. Paul Mayor Has to Do Workplace Training

What’s the line between sexual harassment and being inappropriate? I’m not sure the results of the investigation into St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her clears that up. On Friday, the mayor released a short summary of a monthslong investigation into her conduct. According to the summary, Her didn’t sexually harass any city employees but did engage in offensive and inappropriate behavior, and created an uncomfortable work environment. • What we know: The investigation results come from a two-page summary written by the city’s Human Resources director. Kamaria Kassim also wrote that Her’s behavior does not meet the city’s “expectations,” and the mayor will be required to hire an executive coach and attend workplace conduct training. [St. Paul Human Resources]
  • “Whitewashing”: Police Chief Axel Henry has been the main complainant against the mayor. His lawyer Chris Madel slammed the results, calling it a “sanitized, self-serving whitewash of an investigation.” Madel also doubled down on some of the allegations: “...we are aware of at least FIVE separate witnesses who confirm that Mayor Her made unmistakable orgasm-like noises in the St. Paul Police Department gym.” [Star Tribune]
  • About that text: The city’s definition of sexual harassment includes “dirty jokes” and sexually explicit images, videos, and text. I suppose “weinering” memes don’t qualify?

What the Cities Are Talking About

Library saved: Speaking of that budget shortfall in St. Paul, the mayor originally proposed cuts that would have hit the Eastside particularly hard. Mayor Kaohly Her is now partially walking back those cuts, thanks to a new franchise agreement with Xcel Energy. Translation: we found some more money. That means the Dayton’s Bluff library is saved from closure. The aging Duluth and Case Recreation Center may still close down, however. [Pioneer Press]

“We ball!!!”: You should do one brave thing a day. For Racket writer Patrick Strait, that thing seemed to be trying out for the Minnesota Timberwolves. As Strait recounts his day of tryouts and meeting other team hopefuls, I found it all more heartwarming than I expected. Strait talked to a dad who tried out to inspire his son. Dreams never die! [Racket]

“We ball!!!” part two: Napheesa Collier’s 3-on-3 league Unrivaled is coming to Target Center in January. It should be a buzzy event, with Olivia Miles, Kayla McBride, and Courtney Williams all playing. Host Sean McPherson’s wife was quick on the uptake, and reports finding tickets just under $100 in the 200s section. [Star Tribune]

Sick: The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s “Coolest Thing Made in Minnesota” bracket is underway. You can vote on one of 16 locally-made products. Previous winners include a military-grade rig by Polaris and 3M’s Magic Scotch Tape. Clearly, results may vary, but I’m pulling for the firefighting plane. [Minnesota Chamber of Commerce]
